We are well into our first nine week period. Soon we will have to post grades! Time has really flown by. My class has had a good beginning. I still haven't read the book I promised myself I would read; but our routines are established. So it will be next year or even the 2nd half of the year before I try to change anything. My little ones (first graders) are eager to learn, and this year there are no big personality conflicts that create problems. I have already seen great progress and growth! So we truly are...off to great places.

So summer is over and we have begun a new school year. This summer I found the Pete the Cat books and I loved the way they could be used as an interactive whole group reading activity. I have been working on "cue" cards to use for these lessons. Here is a sample.
You can get more information about the Pete the Cat books at the following website: Harper Collins Children's: Pete the Cat

So, decided to find out how to grab someone else's button. I went to the blog Kindergarten Crayons (an excellent blog and source for teachers) and copied the html code for her button. Then I went back to my dashboard and selected 'add a gadget - html code.' I pasted the html code into the box and saved. Then I realized that the gadget would be at the top instead of in the correct place on my blog. So, I simple moved it by dragging the "HTML Gadget" box and sliding it under the links that I follow. I may do the same with my own button to see if it works correctly.
Trying to learn how to make a button on my blog. I'll let you know how it goes.
I was able to get the button made, but not without a little help from Ehow.com
I followed the instructions without too much of a problem. So, after posting the html code and link, I grabbed the html code for the image above, resized the height and width, and added it to the html code so that the correct image appeared, Voila'! It worked! Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks? Just make sure you get the entire image html code incuding size requirements.
So long story short it worked, but not without gnashing of teeth as well as trial-an-error with html code.

There has been much said of the "world of blogging." It has truly opened the doors for teachers to share and communicate with one another. It is my hope to share reflections from my 20 years of teaching, materials that may be useful, and participate in communicating with other teachers. Since this if my very first posting, I will wait to share my blog with others until I have an opportunity to add more than just a few words.
